Glossary

A section that provides definitions of the main terms used in this Toolkit.

Toolkit: a carefully curated selection of tools designed to meet specific needs. Each tool is described in terms of its potential purposes and how it contributes to an overall objective. Depending on the context, different combinations of tools can be used to achieve specific goals. This Toolkit doesn't just include tools, but also other resources such as best practice activities and event formats that can be replicated and adapted by others.

Ways of Navigating: an expression that translates the conceptual approach used to develop the FCH Toolkit. Such an approach aims to grasp the complexity of building a toolkit that should answer manifold needs as well as providing a solid and unique infrastructure. In practical terms, it defines the different entry points an organisation, a FCH Network memeber or an end-user could adopt to search for specific tools or for a strategic roadmap. Two different Ways of Navigating are proposed based on your needs:

  1. You are searching for tools "to work on a specific challenge”. This Way proposes tools selected and organized according to a Tailor-made Tagging System based on the 5 key concepts.

  2. You want to "set up a Fab City Hub from scratch", based on a proposed step-by-step roadmap (named FCH Roadmap).

The CENTRINNO Tailor-made Tagging System: : It is a suggested tagging system to analyse, test and assess the resources selected within the FCHs Toolkit. In this toolkit the tagging system encompasses 5 key concepts and the 14 FCH Steps (see below) . The resources included in the FCHs Toolkit have been tagged according to one or multiple of these tags. Tags have been assigned by Pilots and other consortium partners as well.

FCH Roadmap: it is a strategic plan that outlines a proposed step-by-step journey to be followed in order to set up an FCH. The Roadmap will be constantly updated during the next iteration based on insights and feedback from activities developed within CENTRINNO.

The FCH Steps: stemming from the 10 principles for FCH and feedback loops with pilots’ activities, they are the 14 fundamental steps suggested to set up a FCH and constitute the FCH Roadmap toward it. Formerly referred to as ‘FCH step-cards’ due to their visual format, they are now included in this Toolkit as individual pages accessible from this section. Each page includes an explanation of the step, as well as a selection of relevant tools, case studies, and other resources related to the step.

Previous toolkits / resources: these are the foundational sources for the FCH Toolkit considered the best references for inspiration. They include the Creative Hub Kit, the REFLOW Collaborative Governance Toolkit (RCGT), the Citizen Sensing Toolkit, the Co-Creation Navigator, and the Civic Design Method.

Stories: are the tools collected based on the local experiences of the FCH Network's of 9 pilot cities

(EU) Fab City Hubs Network:

the network of 9 European cities that are part of the CENTRINNO consortium, working together to develop innovative models of Fab City Hubs in their local environments as part of the same EU research project.
