👥Fab City Camp

An physical event to define, celebrate and expand the development of your Fab City Hub and its communities

What is it about and why is it relevant ?

A Fab City Camp is an event held in a physical space, ideally at your Fab City Hub main headquarter to expand the local network connected to your Hub and the cities' activities on manufacturing. It may include workshops, presentations or seminars and exhibition on one or several Fab City related topics. It strengthens the local community and opens it up to new members who are interested in knowing a bit better how to collaborate with the local Fab City efforts.

This event constitutes one of the first key activities you can put in place to ideate your local model of Fab City Hub. This type of activity could be adapted and adjusted according to the local context of your city, becoming also an opportunity to exchange your experience with cities that are going through similar processes, leveraging also on the support by the Fab City Foundation.

Three CENTRINNO Pilot cities have already developed a Fab City Camp so far: Milan, Paris, and Geneva.

Milan was the first city, among the 9 Fab City Hub Network members, that organised this type of event in 2021. Initially, the local team launched an open call for participation to attract local manufacturers engaged in circular and sustainable activities in the field of design and fashion. The Fab City Camp in Milan aimed to be a networking and co-design event to start developing their own approach to their Fab City Hub. 80 local stakeholders attended and participated the event in the Ex Ansaldo Area, where the Fab City Hub will be developed. The event, organized by the Municipality of Milan and NEMA, included different activities, such as panel discussions, workshops and networking sessions. All these different sessions raised interest among the participants and helped set up the foundation for developing a small collaboration group of stakeholders which will slowly become the Fab City Hub core community.

In Paris, Fab City Grand Paris organized a whole day of presentations and workshops around circular economy, creativity and urban resilience. The event was the opportunity to organise the first EN workshop with participants around topic such as food production and community values The Camp allowed to share and discuss the activities and achievements Fab City Grand Paris has developed over the last few years. The event was also an opportunity to create attention over the new Fab City Hub Paris, launched in the end of 2021.

The Geneva Fab City Camp was organised in November 2022 at LaMaco with the support of Onl'fait, Ressources Urbaines and Le Geste, three of the main partners of the Geneva Fab City Hub. The event included seminars and collective discussions around topic such as urban production, ecological transition and circular economy. With the participation of international guests part of the CENTRINNO Consortium, such as Municipality of Milan, Waag , Fab City Grand Paris and IAAC , the events aimed at three main objectives :

  1. Encourage dialogues on urban production in Geneva and propose more inclusive and circular initiatives to support craftsmen in industrial zones.

  2. Foster a network of individuals, companies, government entities, and organizations dedicated to sustainable development.

  3. Assist in the implementation of the City of Geneva's climate strategy, particularly by advancing its shift towards more circular models of production and consumption.
