Approach

A section to explain the context and the mindset used to develop this Toolkit

Did you say Toolkit ?

Toolkits are authoritative and adaptable resources that aim to facilitate the adoption of best practices or concepts. They provide a diversified set of resources, such as practical tools, methods, and frameworks, to achieve a specific objective. Toolkits translate theory into practice and provide a strong understanding of processes and frameworks to analyze the specific context. They provide maps or paths to follow, but they do not aim to provide solutions to all questions. Toolkits should be designed to be flexible, iterative, user-friendly, and intuitive. They should also facilitate interaction among people and the integration of feedback from real-world experience to be effective in the long term.

How we approached the construction of the Fab City Hubs Toolkit

The FCH Toolkit is a collection of adaptable resources that aims to facilitate the implementation of Fab City Hubs (FCHs), which are innovative models for sustainable, creative, and productive urban spaces. The FCH network was initiated by CENTRINNO's Pilot cities and is expected to grow as other cities in Europe replicate this approach.

The FCH Toolkit aims to create a blueprint that will allow the network of FCHs to grow and expand beyond the 9 Pilot cities, with new hubs in Europe and worldwide. To achieve this, a flexible approach is necessary to answer Pilots' specific needs arising from their context and allow the Toolkit to evolve according to future cases. Then, the FCH Toolkit is configured as a non-linear set of contents, the access to which is facilitated through different entry points and different ways of navigating.

Based on the Gitbook technology, the FCH Toolkit wants to facilitate a certain degree of interaction between the content and its users, allowing them to choose where to start from and how to navigate through. This interactivity and platform-oriented approach will also allow the Toolkit to evolve in time. The evolution as a 'living tool' will be coordinated by Volumes and nourished by all the FCHs of the network, and more broadly fuelled and contextualised by the FCGI through the Fab City Foundation.

" While we need to write a deliverable in form of written report, this toolkit should be designed as a platform, written in the form of a report "
