Principles and Values

Accompanying text about archives at Imagine IC Exhibition. Text reads: ‘What is an archive? The neighbourhood archive started in 2014. Imagine IC made a call to gather archives. But what is an archive? With us, that is everything that people, sometimes unconsciously, have kept as witnesses of their daily lives. Everyone has archives. Just think of your bag holding plastic bags! It tells every household about shopping habits and tastes.’

The exhibition is never the end goal. It merely shows the result of what has been collected (like a visualisation of the conversations) so far and is instrumentalized in a presentation format to engage and foster further conversations.

Throughout the process of creating an exhibition, it is necessary to maintain a strong and applied sense of the ethics of collecting and exhibiting within a co-created framework. Interrelated questions that should be considered include:

• Who does the CENTRINNO project engage in the process?

• How do the CENTRINNO Project and the Living Archive engage them?

• What does the CENTRINNO Project offer in return?

• How can the Living Archive maintain a co-curated and co-collected approach throughout the process?

• How does the CENTRINNO agree to communicate throughout the process?

• How can participants be practically and meaningfully involved in the process?

• Does the process of working towards the exhibition help to (re)present different voices?
