Paris Fab City Hub Vision

The Vision of the Paris Pilot team for their local model of FCH is to gather and to develop an alternative urban food system thanks to a rich historical and sociological heritage showing that it is both economically viable and environmentally friendly to grow food in the city and to hybridize past practical knowledge with cutting edge technologies

A foundational aspect of the Paris FCH is to build and strengthen the idea of functioning as a distributed learning ecosystem of spaces and people. The development of tools such as Kumu for learning ecosystem and the Make Works for food producers platform had the objective to map and connect those actors that have specific skills and knowledge about production together with making visible and available people and spaces with specific skills for learning about topic such as food production, urban agriculture ,sustainable fabrication and construction. One of the main objective and a key focus for all the activities organised was to actors conceive part of grow food in the city and to hybridize past practical knowledge with cutting edge technologies.toward the definition and consolidation of their FCH model and their local initiatives is :

Paris Fab City Hub Community(ies)

FCH Typology and spatial strategy: The Fab City Hub Paris is a unique physical location investing a former industrial site in the popular network of Mouzaia as well as an open space called Le Jardin de Traverses (in the process of being opening during 2024) in the 18th arr. ; EVenthough the FCH Paris is embodied by these spaces, they are connected and work in synergy with an ecosystem of distributed spaces such as innovative hubs, maker spaces, and food labs mainly located in the North-east area of Paris.

Hub governance : Oasis 21 is the space operator and FCGP is the content and manager curator

Business Model : Multiple streams of revenue: Location of working space with different formulas and kitchens for production/transformation and incubation programmes , privatisation, public subvention

Paris Fab City Hub Infrastructure(s)

When Centrinno started the local team was already working toward the opening of a physical space as the main and representative location for their FCH local model. Hence, the Parisian FCH beside with this dedicated specific venue called FCH Mouzaia, was already conceived and structured as an ecosystem of creative and productive spaces distributed across the city, collaborating, sharing resources and knowledge for transforming production within the city scale . These spaces, during the CENTRINNO project aimed at being the physical and distributed infrastructure supporting actors and initiatives engaged in topic such as urban farming, sustainable food transformation as well as circular design and manufacture practices. What's next ?

The Paris FCH is actually managed by a cooperative called Oasis21, that is also managing other two innovative spaces, Volumes Lab and Oasis 21 located in the 19th arr. and both engaged in promoting sustainable and circular practices among different actors.

In order to assure the FCH sustainability , additional funds and activities need to be secured to ease operations and assure the continuity of these spaces, its activities and its community. To this end the FCGP association is focusing its effort in further develop and strengthen their vocational training offer in order to stabilise their BM and keep operating as an actor producing knowledge and contents for this community of makers and producers.
